The Witchy Wardrobe Secret no one talks about.
Did you know that your wardrobe holds a secret? A secret that could change your life? Here it is:
Your wardrobe isn’t just clothes, it’s a mirror of yourself.
The clothes you are wearing on a daily basis are a subconscious spell, to manifest a certain version of yourself, the future you’re calling in or a past you are still hanging on to.
They way you dress can literally ruin your life, keep you stuck and make you feel unmotivated, uninspired, and, let’s just say it: not magickal. And we all need more magick in our lives :)
I didn’t fully grasp the depth of this concept until I stepped onto my path as a witch and truly understood the power of intention, casting a spell and doing the rituals. And now that you know this, you can begin working with it, too and create meaningful daily rituals for yourself! :)
But I didn’t only understand that intuitively, there is even scientific proof of that: The Enclothed Cognition Theory. This Theory was introduced by Hajo Adam and Adam D. Galinsky and attempted to capture the effects that clothing can have on the person wearing them.*
What you wear is directly influencing your thoughts and feelings which than arouse certain emotions and behaviors. What that means? your closet is a powerful manifestation tool that you can use as a modern witch.**
Note: If you're living with a chronic illness or you're in a season of life where comfort is essential, please know that you can adapt all of this information to fit your unique lifestyle. Your well-being always comes first.
Saving Clothes for the “perfect moment” & Holding on to Clothes
Now I did this mistake for most of my life. Whenever I bought a fancy dress or something more expensive than usual, I’d put it away in the depths of my closet. I thought I’d wait until there was the “perfect” moment to wear it or the “perfect” event.
I would buy so many clothes yet never wear them, because I was pushing a version of myself that I intuitively wanted to embody into that “perfect moment” in the future. I wore my old clothes because it was not “the right time” in my mind. But by doing that I kept myself stuck in the past and a past version of myself that I was ready to move on from. I kept telling my subconscious that I was not ready for that new version of myself, I could feel I was the time to evolve into.
I was telling the Universe and myself: “No wait, I’m actually not ready yet.”
Holding onto clothes is also something that ties into all of that. Maybe they don’t fit your body or your style anymore or don’t support the story you want to tell with how you dress. But here’s the thing:
It’s not just physical clutter. It’s energetic clutter.
If you are familiar with cleansing magick, you know that as witches we don’t want stagnant energy in our home. By keeping your wardrobe cluttered with items that don’t fit your body or that you don’t vibe with anymore, you’re holding onto stagnant energy that anchors you to a version of yourself you may be ready to evolve from, to a past version you probably have outgrown already anyways.
Forgetting That Getting Dressed is a Powerful Daily Ritual!
Getting dressed is such a powerful manifestation tool, it’s an energetic initiation for the day.
I love to include symbols and colors in my outfits that reflect what I want to embody that day. Even if it is just my dragon earrings that day that make me feel like I’m that Dragonrider ready to tackle every challenge that may be ahead of me that day.
And I just found this out - but women are naturally more drawn to wearing red during the most fertile part of their cycle.
And this to me just shows how deeply we intuitively express ourselves through colors.
So each item you wear is a symbol, a part of your spell.
And by using some incense and putting on some music, dancing - getting into the mood and energy you want to experience that day, you can create a beautiful empowering ritual in the morning or when you are about to get ready.
Even if you’re just putting on socks - do it like THAT witch.
3 Ways to Use Your Wardrobe as a Manifestation Tool
Okay, now that you know the 3 biggest mistakes and are aware that you can use our wardrobe to create magick and manifest, lets talk about how to actually utilize all of this in your daily life as a modern witch.
And just to be clear: I’m not saying that you can never wear jogging pants or comfy clothes again. But if you are wearing your pajamas every single day, you’ll probably feel tired and unmotivated all the time because this is what you’re literally wearing to sleep.
Start Treating Your Wardrobe Like an Altar
An altar is a sacred and deeply personal space where a witch focuses their intentions, prepares for rituals, and connects with their practice. Now imagine treating your wardrobe the same way. Just like you carefully place magickal tools, herbs, and crystals on your altar, you can begin curating your wardrobe with the same kind of intention. Think about what your clothing space needs to support your personal magick.
Witchy Wardrobe Essentials
Ask yourself: What are the tools and essentials I need to make wardrobe magick happen?
Maybe it’s a certain style that feels most aligned with your energy.
Maybe it’s that one dress that makes you feel unstoppable.
Maybe you want to work with a specific element and reflect that in the colors and fabrics you wear.
Release Stuck Energy
If you’ve ever had a cluttered altar, you know how hard it is to do magickal work in that space. It’s distracting. It feels off. The same goes for your wardrobe. So, make it a ritual to declutter and refresh the energy in your closet regularly. Think of it like this:
Just as you might bring water or plants to your altar to infuse it with life, ask yourself: How can I bring fresh energy into my wardrobe altar?
Here are a few simple ways to do that:
Rotate your seasonal clothes (spring/summer ↔ autumn/winter) and give everything a loving wash before storing.
Add a small sachet of lavender to your closet to infuse it with magickal scent.
Maybe it’s time to buy something new, something high-quality and intentional, rather than always thrifting (even though thrifting is magick too!).
Paint your wardrobe or closet doors with flowers, sigils, or symbols that speak to your spirit.
Get creative, this is your sacred space!
Letting-Go Ritual
When you declutter, I highly recommend turning it into a letting-go ritual (you probably saw Marie Kondō doing this before ;)) Move through your wardrobe slowly and with intention. Ask yourself: Does this still reflect the version of myself I want to embody?
If not: thank it, bless it, and lovingly let it go.
You're not just clearing space in your closet. You're releasing old energy to make space for the magick that’s ready to enter your life. :)
Create Your Witchy Wardrobe Story
When you dress the way you want to feel, you naturally begin to shift into that version of yourself. Day by day, your identity evolves, your self-image expands, and you begin to embody the version of you you're calling in.
I invite you to write this down (not on your phone or laptop) in your journal. Putting pen to paper makes it real and tangible.
Here’s a simple script you can follow to write your wardrobe story:
1. Set a Goal: What do you want to call in? This could be a feeling like confidence, creativity, or empowerment, or a larger manifestation like your dream homeor your dream career.
2. Describe Your Dream Self and Dream Life: Step into the energy of the version of you who already has it.
3. Tap Into Your Feelings: Ask yourself: How would I feel living that life?
4. Visualize Your Behavior: Once you’ve tapped into that feeling, ask yourself: How would I act and show up in the world as that version of me?
5. Choose Your Wardrobe Intentionally: Now it’s time to align your wardrobe with your energy! Pick clothing and accessories that reflect how you want to feel and who you’re becoming.
I hope you have as much fun experimenting with all of this as I have! :)
With love,
